How to Read Web Hosting Reviews
Posted by hbrp on 02/3/08 in Technology
When choosing a web host, you’re probably going to want to do some research into the different companies that you are considering. One of the ways that you will likely do this is by reading web hosting reviews. But do you really know what you should be looking for besides a general thumbs up or thumbs down from consumers?
Here are some things to consider when reading these reviews:
• Is the reviewer biased? Consider the source of the review to get perspective on its general application to your needs.
• Does the review touch on services you need? For example, you may want linux hosting which differs from windows hosting. If the review you’re reading is only about windows hosting, it really isn’t applicable.
• Is there an actual price on the review? Words like "pricey" and "affordable" are subjective so look for an actual rate.
• Do you understand the technical terms being used? If you don’t really know what good bandwidth is or how to compare speeds, you should get some help from a technical peer when reading these reviews.
It’s good to get a general idea of what a service might be like by reading reviews. However, you will also want to speak to the customer service representatives of various companies yourself to make sure that you know everything you need to before signing up with them.
