Flow Meters Push Technology to New Limits

The flow meter measures the rapidity of a fluid stream of liquid or gas.  Its concepts are mostly based on the principles of physics therefore it is not necessary to compensate for other variables.  There are many different designs and purposes based on the industry the measurement will serve.  However, much of the technology is relatively new and has really only been in existence for approximately the past 10 years.

Since the introduction of the flow meter was made other advances have begun to arise.  One of the unique aspects involved in the concept of flow measurement is that it does not disturb what it measures.  Being able to measure the flow of a substance without interference was necessary progress for many outlets that utilize the flow meter such as manufacturing, industrial, and agriculture.  Therefore, due to the success of these instruments, other techniques have emerged to compliment these devices such as sonar, transmitters, ultrasonics, and optical instruments.  These have been particularly useful advances in many industries including nuclear plants and water waste.

As with many advances it appears the growth of the flow meter and mass flow meter, it has spawned the emergence of other important engineering innovation.  It will be interesting to see how many other improvements will be created from the presence of this technology.
