I used to be one of those people who ignored everyone else when I was out and about. I had my iPod on and a book under my nose. I couldn’t even tell you what the person next to me on the bus looked like because I didn’t ever look. That’s all changed now. Now I make myself appear more friendly and I strike up conversations with people everywhere I go. Doing this has allowed me to meet so many new people. I don’t necessarily become friends with all of them or even see most of them again. But it opens up the opportunity that I might meet someone that I want to know.

I’m not just talking about opening yourself up to making friends or finding dating partners either. You can create great business opportunities for yourself by striking up random conversations. You can also meet people who might meet other needs in your life. I remember talking to a couple of realtors in Tampa Bay when I was on vacation there and when I took their business cards I thought “well, you never know when you’ll need a Tampa Bay realtor“. I might not but then again I might. Striking up a conversation with them put them on my radar and put me on theirs. I think it’s a good thing to do. What do you think?
