Stocking a College Bookstore
Posted by HomeBiz on 10/15/08 in Shopping
I manage a bookstore at a community college and I’ve been ordering more of our stock from a discount school supply. They offer a lot of budget school supplies, and clearance and bulk deals. This means we can pass the savings on to the students. I like to offer a lot of sale items. The prices in college bookstores are usually higher than those in discount supermarkets, but I’m proud to say that our prices are competitive because I can get good prices from our online supplier. I always make an effort to keep costs down. Our students aren’t exactly rolling in dough, so they need extra help.
The bookstore also offers excellent deals on teacher supplies. Our customers appreciate not having to get a lot of stuff off-campus. The store is big enough that we are able to keep a good variety of things to meet different needs. In addition to school items, we also sell assorted gifts and souvenirs. Holiday supplies sell well because our customers are usually trying to save time shopping and find it convenient to get things on campus. We also fill special orders and ask for suggestions. Someone even said it would be nice to have fresh flowers, and we’re looking into that. I like to get colorful things to brighten up the store and help cheer people up.
