4 Types of CPAP Machines

If you’ve been diagnosed with sleep apnea, your doctor might have informed you that you should start CPAP therapy. This therapy may include either CPAP machines or CPAP masks. Although your doctor will point you in the right direction, it can be difficult to figure out what kind of CPAP equipment you should get.

If you’re in the market for a CPAP machine, there are four different types of machines that you want to look at before making a final selection:

  1. Automatic. For people with sleep apnea who don’t want to have to worry about the pressure of their machine, the automatic is the best choice. It reads your body and regulates how much pressure you need while you’re sleeping.
  2. BiPAP. With this type of machine, you will have one pressure for when you exhale at night and one (stronger) pressure for when you inhale.
  3. Traditional CPAP. This is obviously the most common type of CPAP machine. It will provide you with a steady pressure while you sleep to assist with your sleep apnea.
  4. Travel CPAP. You may get this one in addition to one of the others if you travel a lot. You may also choose to get only this one because it is smaller and more convenient than the others.

You should obviously work with a doctor to make sure that you choose the right machine but knowing which of the four types you’re most interested in can assist you in narrowing down your choices.
