I live in a relatively older home and there were some changes that I wanted to make, and some that were necessary to make.  The first thing that I wanted to do was put in replacement windows.  Most cold air and hot air can get in through windows that a do not have the right insulation.  It is something that is a great investment as you start to update your home.  In fact it would probably be one of the first things and good designer would recommend because of the smart money move it is.  Of course you pay more at the begging to get the right ones, but after that you will start seeing savings in your bills.

The second thing that I wanted to do was replace our patio door with French doors.  I think that French doors make everything look so sharp and stylish.  It is amazing how easy it is to change the patio doors into French doors too.  It depends upon the size of the opening of course, but once you have that measured the French doors go in really easy.  And like the replacement windows they are a good investment because they are more insulated and add to the overall appearance of our home.
