My childhood dog was a Boston Terrier

Growing up we always seemed to have a couple of dogs and more cats than you could count in one span of the place. During the earlier part of my childhood, we owned a Boston Terrier named Charlie. He was fun, playful and always loved to be around all of the children. My father had also grown up with them and they were very dear to his heart.
My mother on the other hand was drawn for an unknown reason to me, to the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I know that she didn’t grow up with animals that much, but she very dearly loved her little Cavie, as she called him.
Now that I’m out on my own, I’ve been considering getting a dog for companionship and general needs. As much as I’m drawn to the two breeds I had when growing up, I wonder if I might not enjoy looking into something new and different.
The one thing I know I don’t really want is a very large breed of dog. I don’t currently live in a very big apartment, so having some gargantuan animal clamoring around the place really isn’t terribly attractive to me at this time in my life.
