My sister in law asked me for a payday loan today.  I honestly think she thought just because I’m a woman (and a hard working, successful business woman at that!) that I would totally understand that she, a bored housewife, needs a little “mad money”, but that she’s gone through all the spare funds in the household.  She also doesn’t want me to mention it to her husband, who happens to be my baby brother, despite the fact that she intends to pay me back out of his next paycheck. 

When I asked what she needed it for (if her son needs a medication or something I’d give her everything I had) she said shoes.  I wish I were joking, but I’m not.  She wanted a thousand dollars for shoes, and maybe a Coach bag.  She tried to qualify for a debt consolidation loan, and they told her she didn’t have any debt to consolidate.  I asked her about credit cards, and she gave me a blank look.  Since she doesn’t have bad credit, credit cards would be (and hopefully will be) a great alternative to her bothering me all the time.  I found her one with a great rate and low available credit, mostly because at this point I don’t trust her with a high limit.  I’m just so glad I’m not a silly woman.
