Can You Make a Living with the Stock Market?

A lot of people dream of not only working from home, but of making their living entirely from the stock market.  But how realistic is this?

Honestly, the first thing that comes to mind is the episode of Friends, where Monica is unemployed and gets the idea to trade in the stock market.  Buoyed by her “beginner’s luck,” she continues to trade until she loses everything — and then she starts begging her friends to lend her money.

Obviously this is a satirical situation, written specifically for the laughs it’ll get from Friends fans, but how far off the mark is it?  Clearly there is a strong moral here: Don’t get into the stock market (without help, at least) unless you know what you are doing.  If you don’t know what a forex trading strategy is, you have no business being in charge of your investments!

You can, of course, learn about the stock market well enough to manage your investments.  There is, for example, courses such as this emini futures training to set you on the right track.  But it’s important to remember that no matter how much you know about the stock market, it’s still something of a gamble — just think about all the recent ups and downs we’ve experienced since the big banks have been having troubles.

My advice is that, like any home business, you should wait until your futures trading starts pulling in a reliable income before you quit your “day job.”  Any new business is a gamble, really, and you just don’t want to be putting all your eggs in that basket until you are reasonably confident the basket won’t break!

I think at some point you might be able to make a living from the stock market, but only if you get an online stock broker who can help you with trading because it really is a gamble.
