Son Getting Into College is A Mixed Blessing

I’m so proud of both my sons getting into CU Boulder, especially since the first one was kind of lazy in high school and wasn’t even sure he wanted to go to college, but now that he’s there, he adores it. It’s been hard to pay for, but I know all the financial aid tricks, so we’ve been making it work.
The second son, though, was accepted into the elite School of Engineering and Applied Sciences there. I’m so proud of him! To see them go from being cuddled into their cradle bedding to playing the college fight song on the football field is heart-warming. But now that the economy stinks and his college account has shrunken so that it’s not worth pulling out right now, it makes it harder than ever. Plus, they’ve raised tuition; and what’s more, it costs $2000 more a year to be an Engineer than anything else at Boulder. And they’ve raised the cost of the dorm from $8000 a year to $10,000 a year.
I’m not sure how much more I can work to pay for all this. I’d work 80 hours a week if I could, but I also have a two year-old at home. Sometimes I just want to curl up, myself, in some baby crib bedding and hope someone comes along to take care of me in this financial dilemma.
