Work from Home as a Wedding Planner

Wedding planners are becoming quite popular.  As weddings become infinitely more popular, brides just don’t have time to plan their own weddings all by themselves any longer.  Women work these days, for one thing, rather than sitting at home making linens for their dowries and writing out wedding invitations.  Therefore a wedding planner can often make a good living planning other people’s weddings for them.

What kinds of things will you be doing as a wedding planner?

  • Finding and booking the venue.  For instance, a bride-to-be might tell you she is interested in having a destination wedding or a theme wedding such as a castle wedding.  It will be your job to present her with a number of possibilities, arrange for tours if the bride wishes, and book the venue the bride ultimately decides on.
  • Coordinating with the caterer to plan the meal.  Planning the reception meal can be one of the most tedious parts about the wedding planning process.  The bride probably has no idea what sides go well with what entrees and so forth, so it will be your job to coordinate with the caterer, give the bride some options, and let the caterer know her final decision.
  • Organizing guest lists and ordering invitations.  Another of the most hated tasks for many brides is the whole process of preparing and sending out invitations.  The bride will most likely be more than happy to pass on to you the guest list, not to mention the responsibility for ordering and preparing the invitations to be mailed.

These are just a few of the tasks handled by a wedding planner.  Of course, if you are acting as a wedding planner for someone who is coming in from out of town — for instance, someone who is having her wedding in Michigan in order to get married near family — you will probably be relied on to handle even more of the responsibilities of planning a wedding, standing in for the bride when she can’t be there to do things and make decisions.
