Why I Love Working from Home

As a self-employed freelance writer, I work from a home office, finding and communicating with clients mainly via email and the Internet.  One whole room in our house is devoted to "our" office (although since my husband has a "real" job, he doesn’t use the office quite like I do).  My work station includes all of the different things a home office needs:

  • A desk with good drawer space for storage
  • A laptop (hey, I don’t work at the desk all the time)
  • A printer that is devoted entirely to office work
  • A scanner that is often used for office work (doubles as a copier when my laptop is hooked up to a printer at the same time!)
  • A binding machine for punching and binding booklets that I self-publish
  • Heavy duty paper cutters for cutting the pages of said booklets — I like guillotine cutters the best, though rotary trimmers are better for conserving space
  • Bookshelves full of books related to my business (writing)

It’s a great office setup, but of course one of the best parts of working from home is that I’m not confined to my office.  In reality, my laptop is my office, as that’s where I have everything I need: client information, paperwork, and WiFi to allow me to work from any place I choose.
